Hi guys,
I am taking you with me in the Arboretum Volčji Potok (->map).
This place is about 30 minutes away from Ljubljana by car.
It is a huge botanic park, with little lakes and a large forest.
It covers an 85 hectare site with plants from all over the world and more than 2000 trees and bushes.
It pretty much looks like paradise on earth.
Walking in this quite unique place is a great therapy for the mind.
Whether you are young or old, there is no chance that you won’t fall in love with this green kingdom of tranquility.
As soon as you will enter the park, you will quickly feel at ease and completly relaxed.
Wide open spaces, the grass is impeccably maintained … it sometimes feels like we’re walking accross a golf course.
There is a lot of playground for kids.
You’ll see huge wales swimming in the grass and big dinosaurs moving and making strange noises.
If you have kids, they will love this place …so much that they might be unwilling to go back home with you.
I really loved the old park, which was built close to the former castle.
It is simply gorgeous. You’ll find century old plane trees and wild chestnust trees above stone tables.
Most of these trees were planted at the end of the 19th century.
Near the old park, you’ll see the superb French Garden.
That is probably the highlight of the park.
About 150 meters away from the French Garden, at the edge of the forest,
you’ll find a nice Café where you’ll be able to relax under the trees while having a drink.
They have excellent cakes and drinks. It is cheap and waitresses are super nice.
If you have time, take a long stroll in the forest.
A lot of locals actually go there to walk in the forest under the trees.
Walk at least 30 min in that forest and you’ll feel rejuvenated.
You’ll probably find little surprises like animals and insects made with wood and tree branches.
A lot of fun to see for kids and adults as well.
Take some time to take a long stroll around the big lake, near the rosery.
Afterwards, go to the rosery and look at all the roses.
There are over 900 varieties of roses on display.
A little remark before leaving you guys.
The last times I went to Ljubljana, I noticed that they were a lot of French and American tourists in the streets and bars of Ljubljana.
Some of them already seemed to be hanging around in the capital for 3 or 4 days.
Well, my friends …I have a good tip you -> GET OUT OF TOWN !
Two days is Ljubljana is more than enough to see most of it.
Go take a good breath of fresh air in the Arboretum.
