Hello guys,
Today, we are in Cerje (->map).
Cerje is a hill in the Karst plateau between Opatje Selo and Miren (2 villages in Slovenia).
At the top of this hill proudly stand a tour made of grey stones which is more than 200 m above sea level.
This 7 storey building house a memorial for those who fought and fell while defending the Slovenian soil
and an exposition on the topic of the first world war.
From the top of this hill, in clear weather, you’ll have an outstanding view over the surrounding cities,
the mountains and the the Adriatic sea on the Italian coast.
If you are sporty, I recommend you to go there by bike or hike there.
There is a lot of greenary all around and you will be rewarded with a wonderful view
at the top of the hill (view of the Dolomites, the Alps, the adriatic sea, the valley of Vipava).
Many locals and tourists go there by bike or hike to the top of the hill.
There are many paths in the forrest both for hikers and cyclists.
At the end of June 2018, a Snack Bar opened behind the building.
You can drink and also eat there. This place is a hit among locals
and tourists who love to have a drink and enjoy the view over the valley of Vipava.
I went there one time already to have lunch and I really loved it.
The staff is really nice and it is not expensive.
I ate and drank very well for 15 € … and the great view is free of charge.
My tips for Cerje:
1/ Go there by bike.
2/ Hike along one of the many paths and trails.
3/ Go inside the monument to visit the museum.
4/ Go eat/drink in the Snack Bar behind the monument.
5/ Park your car Here.
6/ Go visit Nova Gorica, Šempeter and Gorizia.
