Hi my friends,

I am going to show you in little Italian city called Muggia (->map).
This city is a commune of the province of Trieste and has about 13000 inhabitants.

Marina of Muggia.

If you are on vacation in or around Trieste, I recommend you to visit the old city center.
If you are already in Trieste, I strongly recommend you to go there by boat.
Delfino Verde boat departs every hour from Trieste (at Molo dei Barsaglieri) for Muggia.
The boat trip last only 30 minutes.

The old town of Muggia is really worth visiting.
I think 2 hours is enough to visit it at a slow pace.

Winged Lion (representing the Republic of Venice) on the facade the Muggia’s sailing club building, near the marina.
One of the many narrow streets in the old town, not far from the castle.

Walk around the little Marina and look up.
You will see the castle of Muggia up on a hill.
The castle was built in the late 14th century
and was used for military defense untill the beginning of the 18th.
The castle now belong to a private citizen and can only be visited
during the “Open Castles” days in spring and autumn.
If you walk up towards the castle, you’ll have a great view over Muggia and Trieste.

Standing in front of the castle. From there, you’ll be able to see Trieste and its docks.

Not far from the Marina, you’ll find the Duomo di Muggia ( Cathedral of Muggia).
This little cathedral is located on an old little square with.
Go visit the church and walk a bit around.
There are many bars and Cafes around the Duomo.
It is opportunity to stop and have a drink in the shade when the sun is burning.

Duomo di Muggia , little cathedral not for from the marina.

I recommend you to loose yourself in the little narrow streets.
Most of the building are very old and the streets are paved with big old stones.
There are many little shops and restaurants in those streets.
You will see a very old arched gate made of bricks at the beginning of Via Dante Alighieri.
If you keep walking up that street, you will find the old little church called Chiesetta di San Francesco on your left.
This old church is only 2 or 3 minutes from the Castle of Muggia.

Via Dante Alighieri, nice paved street in the old town.

Before leaving Muggia, try to eat in one of the restaurant in the old town.
I personally recommend eating in one of the restaurant that are near the Marina.
You will have a good view of the sea while eating and it is not very expensive.
