Hello guys,
I am going to show you “Place des Vosges” in the district of “Le Marais“.
This is one of the oldest square in Paris. Locals love to go there when the weather is nice.
They sit on the grass and have a drink with friends. Many tourists visiting “Le Marais” like to go there as well.
This square is also very famous in France, because apartments around that sqaure are outrageously expensive
and because Henri IV, former king of France (btw. 1589 and 1610) was stabbed to death on that square.
I’d like to show a very unusual way to go to “Place des Vosges“.
We are walking on a street called “Rue Saint-Antoine“, halfway between the métro stations “Saint-Paul” & “Bastille“.
We stand now in front the “Hotel de Sully“, gorgeous mansion built in the 17th century.
95% of people (including locals) willing to go to “Place des Vosges” pass by that mansion,
go around it and turn on “Rue de Birague” or “Rue des Tournelles” to reach the square.
We ain’t going around -> We are going through !
First, let’s cross the main door of that mansion.
You’ll see a first courtyard. Take a good look around and see how beautiful it is.
If you keep on walking, you’ll see a little passage.
Keep walking through that passage and you’ll see a second courtyard.
That courtyard is even more beautiful than the first one.
-> Magnificent garden, trees and plants growing on the walls’ building.
Stay there for 5 minutes and enjoy the moment.
This is “la crème de la crème” of 17th century archicture and garden landscaping.
You won’t find that kind of courtyard in many other places in Paris.
From the door (in the corner), you’ll see a little passage …and this is where the magic begins.
Walk 5 meters under the vaulted arcades and BANG !!! …you’ll see it -> “Place des Vosges“.
My tips for Place des Vosges:
1/ Go through the “Hotel de Sully” to get there.
2/ Bring something to eat/drink and sit on the grass.
3/ Walk under the vaulted arcades.
