Hello guys,

I would like to take you near the sea. I am taking you with me in a city called Portorož (->map).
With a population of about 3000 inhabitants, Portorož is one of the 4 most visited cities along the slovenian coast.
It is located in the municipality of Piran, just a few kilometers away on the coast line, which is a bit bigger and much more touristy.

Portorož is a great distination to hang out for a couple of hours on a sunny day.
One of the most enjoyable thing on your way there is too see how beautiful the main road leading to Portorož is.
For at least 2 kilometers, just before arriving in the city, the road is surrounded by beautiful trees on both side of the road.
You almost feel like if you were in a tunnel of trees, sheltering you from the burning sun.

Once you arrive in the city, you’ll also get to see many trees along the main road.
The first time I went to visit Portorož, it reminded me a lot of the city of Cannes, in france, on the meditarean coast.
Not as big as Cannes of course but almost the same ambiance and atmosphere.
It looked very clean, rich, Bourgeois, beautiful, hip and just one heartbeat away from a beautiful blue sea.

Along the main road, you’ll see a lot of luxurious hotels such as the kempinski Palace and many Casinos and Spas.
The city is quite famous for that here in Slovenia.
A lot of tourists (both from slovenia and abroad) go to Portorož during the week end and the summer to spend some quality time with friends and family,
to relax on the beach, play at the Casino, go for Spa care , go shopping or just take a stroll along the beach.

There are a couple of luxurious hotels in Portorož that are not cheap at all.
But it will be much less expensive than luxurious hotels in Paris or London. That is for sure.
But some of them are also more affordable.
So you don’t have to be a millionnaire if you want to stay at the hotel there for a couple of days.
That’s good. It is already a load off your shoulders.
Besides that, the city is welcoming and very international. Especially during the summer.
I am pretty sure you will hear at least 5 differents languages if you walk around for 30 minutes.

Once of the thing that I enjoy doing is to go walk on the beach and seat at the terrace of one of the many bars and have a drink and cake while watching the sea.
I strongly recommend the “Cacao Bar” to do just that. It is not too expensive, there’s a great variety of delicious cakes, ice creams and drinks.

There are also a lot of shops in Portorož.
More than enough to entertain shopping lovers for any kind of budget (clothes, jewellery, shoes etc …).

Portorož has a lot of beautiful streets going up and down.
If you are curious, I recommend you to go around for while and enjoy the beauty of the city.
If you have a bike, it will be even more enjoyable.
There are a few spots that are on higher ground, high enough to offer you a great view over the city and the beach.
If you are in a adventurous mood, try to find them and enjoy the view.

I think one of the most enjoyable thing to do is to ride your bike along the coast, on and off the road, all the way to Piran.
The road leading to Piran is about 4 kilometers long.
If the weather is good, it is a lot of fun to do.

Another great thing to discover is not actually in Portorož but just 5 kilometers away.
It is called the “Strunjan Cross”. it is right on the edge of a cliff on the Strunjan peninsula.
This place gives you a fantastic view over the Moon Bay and the natural reserve of Strunjan.
I will talk a bit more about it one fine day.

My tips for Portorož:

1/ Walk along “Obala”, the main avenue of Portorož.
2/ Walk along the beach.
3/ Have drink, a cake or an ice cream at the Cacao Bar.
4/ Go see the Moon Bay and the Strunjan Cross (5 km away).
5/ Park near that Church and walk toward the Strunjan cross.
6/ Go visit the city of Piran (3 km away).
