Hello guys,

I’d like to show you nice things that you could do along the river Ljubljanica.
This river crosses the center of Ljubljana.
There’s always a cool atmosphere wherever you might be near that river.
Plenty of trendy bars and good restaurants, nice boutiques and shops.

At the terrace of restaurant Pop’s Place, next to the river. We see Preseren Square in the backbroung.

For me, the number one attraction to enjoy the Ljubljanica is to take the boat.
There are 3 or 4 differents boats that cruise along the river Ljubljanica.
The tour company that has the most beautiful boat is without a doubt “Barka Ljubljanica”.
The boat is handcrafted by a Slovene company named “Laker Craft” and is completly made of wood.
This company also make boats (called “Pletnja”) that transport passengers on lake bled.
The cruise along the river Ljubljanica last about 45 minutes and coast 10 € (free for children up to 6 years old).
I highly recommend it.

On the boat, near the bridge Ribja brv.
On the boat. The Ljubljana central market is on the left.
The next bridge is the Dragon Bridge. The central market is on the right.

For those of you who like doing sport and discover a new city in the same time,
2 hours of Stand-up paddling along the river should delight you.
It is not cheap (39 € for adults) but you’ll have a lot of fun and it is a original way to discover the city.

Tourists on a Stand-up paddling tour on the Ljubljanica.
They are going in the direction of Špica Park.

You are on a budget and you cannot afford to spend to much money.
I hear you brothers/Sisters.
But don’t worry because you can walk along the river all you want for free.
You’ll get to see some beautiful old buildings, cool and young people passing buy, the Castle of Ljubljana, old bridges etc …
If you like to walk, you could start at the dragon bridge and walk in the direction of Spica Park.
It is about 2 km long and you’ll see a lot of beautiful sites.

Local people chilling out on the Trnovski Pristan embankment.
Walking along the river near St. James Bridge.
View of the Castle of Ljubljana from the river.

It is early in the afternoon and you are hungry.
Well, there is no better place to eat than eating near the river.
You can get something nice and cheap at the Ljublana central market (just next to the river).
I like going in one of the restaurant under the arcades of the Plecnik covered Market and watch the river while eating.

Tourists buying ordering a pizza in the central market, near the river.

If you’d like to sleep in Ljubjana near the river,
I highly recommend you the “H2O Hostel” just 100 meters away from the Dragon bridge.
We stayed there for one night in May 2018 and it was a very nice surprise.
We paid just 50€ (+ 5€ of city tax) for a double room with private bathroom.
If We had choosed another hostel/hotel between Dragon bridge and St James bridge, it would have cost a lot more than that.
From our room, we could see the Ljubljanica river …really nice vew.
For only 50 € (off season), We did not expect that.

My tips for the river Ljubljanica:

1/ Go on a boat cruise.
2/ Stand up paddling on the river.
3/ Walk along the river.
4/ Eat/drink near the river.
5/ Sleep at the H2O Hostel.
