Hello guys,
I am going to show you the city center of Sistiana (->map).
This city is very close from the slovenian border and not far from Trieste.
It has a bit less than 3000 inhabitants.
At first sight, this city has not a lot to offer.
The city center is tiny and not flashy.
But I know my way around.
Let’s get a closer look and dig a bit deeper to see what Sistiana has to offer.
In the city center, there are hotels and restaurants, a gas station, a café bar and shops.
Almost of those shops/hotels/cafés/restaurants are concentrated in segment of 300 meters , on the main road going downward in the direction of “Duino”.
If you want to stop to drink a coffee or eat at the restaurant, you’ll find what you need there.
But that is not the most interesting part of Sistiana …far from it.
Now, I encourage you to leave the city center behind you and drive down the road “SS14″in the direction of “Duino”.
About 1 kilometer further down that road, you’ll see a notice (on your left) indicating the direction of the sea and “Portopiccolo”.
Turn left and you’ll see a little parking lot besides a house.
That house is the T.I.C (Tourist Information Center) of Sistiana.
Park your car there and get out of the car.
Walk forwards about 20 meters and you’ll find yourself next to the edge of the cliff.
Down below, you’ll see the marina of Sistiana, the beach and Portopiccolo (at the far left).
There is a wooden table and a few benches near a tiny house where tourists and local people like to sit,
eat and drink during the summer because benches are under the trees.
I strongly encourage you to go inside the Tourist Information Center.
People working there are always EXTREMELY friendly and they’ll give you tons of infos about what to see and visit in this region.
Now my friend, here you are … at the edge of the cliff, looking down over the sea.
You’ll have 2 main options.
Option 1:
Go to the right, behind the tiny house.
This is the beginning of the “Rilke Trail“.
This trail goes along the cliff and will lead you very close to the “Castle of Duino” or “Castello di Duino”.
Walking along the “Rilke Trail” when you are in Sistiana is a MUST.
Believe me, you’ll a enjoy walking along that trail.
Option 2 :
Go back to your car and drive downhill along the road (to the left of the T.I.C).
That road will lead you the Marina of Sistiana.
