Hi my friend,

Today, we are going with me on a little Tour in Portopiccolo, a nice and rich neighbourhood in Sistiana.

Marina of Portopiccolo near the 5 stars Falisia Hotel.

If you plan to visit this part of the globe (not far from the Slovenian/Italian border),
you can spend a nice couple of hours chilling out in Portopiccolo.
This little neighbourhood is quite new.
If i should guess, i would say less than 5 years old.
You can get there by car (the parking is a bit expensensive during the week end)
or leave your car at the free parking area at the Marina of Sistiana and walk towards Portopiccolo.
It should take you less than 10 minutes on foot.

Entrance of Portopiccolo after this roundabout.

When you’ll arrive in Portopiccolo, you will see beautiful boats on the Marina and fancy appartments.
This is a wealthy neighbourhood. The price for a square meter is more than 5000 €.

Nice square near the ice scream shop “FiordiLatte”. A great place to sit and relax while having an ice cream.

A walk along the Marina from the beginning to the end (near the SPA of Portopiccolo) should take you 20 to 30 min at a slow pace.
I specially recommand the “BA BAR” (snacks, coffee, cakes) and the “FiordiLatte” (they sale awesome ice creams).
If the weather is nice, stop there and enjoy the good life at the terrace.
For me, there is no better place to be in Portopiccolo.

“BA BAR”, just next to the Marina.
Terrace of the “BA BAR” at the end of this alley, next to the Marina.
“FiordiLatte”. This place sale very very good ice cream.

You could also choose to go have something to eat in some of the fancy places and restaurants
such as “Maxi’s” ristaurant or have a drink at the “Beach Club” behind “Maxi’s”.
The “Beach Club” is a great place to have drink and relax near the pool and the sea.
It is a bit pricy (4€ for a Capuccino at the table or 2,5 € at the bar) but I think we also pay for the view.

View of the “Beach Club”, near the bar.
View of the Pool (still at the “Beach Club”).
View of the beach from the terrace of the “Beach Club”.

It is a real delight to go for a walk in the alleys of Portopiccolo.
But one thing might strike you. The feeling of emptiness when you walk in the streets and alleys of Portopiccolo.
Many appartments are still empty and did not manage to seduce people who have serious cash to pay for it.
You can be sure that you will not bump into people in the alleys, especially during the week.
The neighbourhood is a much more alive during the week end because tourists and people living in the area go there to take a stroll.
The streets and alleys won’t be packed with people but at least it will change from the sad ambiance of the week.

Main alley in Portopiccolo (very few people during the week).
Little private garden behind the “Beach Club”. We see the SPA of Portopiccolo on the right, in the background.
View of the beach from the private garden, behind the “Beach Club”.
View of the private garden, turning our back to the Beach Club. There’s a kids’ playground at the end of the garden.
View of the Marina, not far from the SPA and the “Beach Club”.

For those of you who might want to hike a bit and see Portopiccolo from above,
I recommend that you leave your car at the parking lot just next to the main street leading to Trieste.
It is just 400 meters away from the city center of Sistiana.
Walk down along the street going down to Portopiccolo untill you see a notice indicating “SENTIERO DELLE TRINCEE”.
It is a path that is 520 meters long. At the beginning of this path, you’ll get a great view of portopiccolo and the sea.

Road “SS14” in the direction of Trieste . You’ll turn right when you’ll see this.

You will see that little parking lot at the edge of a cliff. You’ll see Portopiccolo from above.
Walk down along this street (to the right of the parking lot) untill you see a notice indicating the beginning of the “Trenches Trail”.
Notice on a wooden door at the beginning of the trail.
View of the marina from the edge of the cliff, next to the “Trenches Trail”.

My tips for Portopiccolo:

1/ Walk all the way along the marina.
2/ Have a drink at the Ba Bar.
3/ Have an ice cream at FiordiLatte.
4/ Have a drink at the Beach Club (not cheap).
5/ Walk on the beach.
