Hello guys,
We are still wandering around and exploring in the Karst Region.
This time, I’d like to show you a little village called Sveto (->map), just 2 kilometers away from Komen.
About 200 inhabitants live in Sveto. No fancy bars and no restaurants here.
The 2 assets of this village are the beautiful landcape (and the forrest) surrounding it
and many old traditional houses that you’ll be able to see if you walk around a bit in the village.
I really like driving along the road between Komen and Sveto.
It is almost completly surrounded by vineyards.
Many locals like to go cycling on that road during during the spring and the summer.
When you will enter the village, you’ll see many beautiful houses (near the church) with colorful window shutters.
Walk around in this area and look at the architecture of the old houses.
You’ll also see a few tiny streets in that area. It is really relaxing to walk in this part of the village.
About 150 meters away from the church, you’ll see a World War One Austro-Hungarian military cemetery.
More than 1100 soldiers are buried there. The central monument in the form of an obelisk was erected in 1916.
Go there and have a look !
There are a few paths crossing the forest that will lead you to neighboring villages such as Lipa or Komen.
If you like hiking or riding a bike, I recommend you to hike or go on a bike ride along one of these paths.
If you are more into cycling then I could go cycling along a little roads to visit surrounded villages such as Lipa, Rubije and Škrbina.
All these village are less than 4 kilometers away from one another on foot or by bike.
Take advantage of it, go out and enjoy surrounding nature.
My tips for Sveto:
1/ Wander around in the village.
2/ Go see the WWI militery cemetery.
3/ Go cycling in and around the village.
4/ Go hiking/cycling along the country paths leading to Lipa and Komen.
5/ Go visit “Rubije” by bike (2 km away).
6/ Go visit “Škrbina” by bike (3 km away).
